Jinmi Yoon

I am an astrophysicist, leader, mentor, teacher, and AAS astronomy ambassador. I am also a Principal Staff Astronomical Data Scientist at the Space Telescope Science Institute (STScI). I work toward one of its core goals, “make the world’s astronomical information accessible to all,” at the Mikulski Archive for Space Telescopes (MAST).

My research interest lies in near-field cosmology. I am particularly interested in the first stars and galaxies and cosmic chemodynamical evolution, studying ancient, most metal-poor stars still living today. You can read more about my research on the research page.

Before my current position, I was a JINA-CEE postdoctoral fellow in the Department of Physics at the University of Notre Dame and the Joint Institute of Nuclear Astrophysics - Center for the Evolution of the Elements (JINA-CEE). I also taught university introductory physics courses at the University of Seoul, Korea.

Outside of work, I enjoy socializing, browsing picture books (interior design ones especially), and listening to audiobooks or music. This site is a mix of my research and teaching experience, work at STScI, and the occasional personal update — feel free to look around.
